FOREWORD: CHAIRPERSON SGB

SGB-Chairperson-AndrewHelenaWe have great pleasure in presenting our Green Score Card (Strategic Plan) of Northern Cape High School. This framework provides clear guidance on the strategies, goals and objectives the school community of Northern Cape High School wants to achieve in order to make it the preferred multi-cultured bilingual school in the Northern Cape Province.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to all previous School Governing Bodies for their vision and planning since the existence of the school, all planning personnel under the excellent guidance of the current principal for their way in which they executed the vision to ensure that we stay one of the top achieving schools in the country.

Northern Cape High School is nationally recognized for its outstanding performances in academics, cultural and sport. With the implementation of the 2015-2018 Green Score Card we want to improve on current performance and be a trendsetter in South Africa.

The School Governing Body, the School Management Team, the Educators, the Non-Educating Staff and the Learners will work together in creating a values system in the school that will enhance integration and excellence. This will contribute towards Northern Cape High performing at an even higher level on national, provincial and local level and being recognized as one of the top schools in South Africa in all the different areas. In all humbleness we can already state that this goal has been achieved to a large extent, but that the school community supports a stance where previous successes will not necessarily ensure future successes. Visionary thinking and hard work is necessary to move to the next high level.
Ons besef die verantwoordelikheid om onderrigpersoneel van die hoogste gehalte te vind in ‘n omgewing waar daar ‘n tekort aan goeie onderwysers is. Hierdie verantwoordelikheid sluit in die skep van ‘n omgewing waarbinne ons senior onderwysers as mentors vir junior onderwysers kan optree ten einde hul ondervinding aan die volgende geslag oor te dra.
We, the SGB, are absolutely aware of the responsibility entrusted to us to coordinate, monitor and execute this plan.

Ons is geëerd om hierdie fantastiese skool te dien en reken op die ondersteuning van ouers, onderwysers, die gemeenskap en ons leerders in die strewe om Hoërskool Noord-Kaap die eerste keuse skool in die provinsie te maak.

Skoolhoof-HenkBrand‘‘ ’n Mens kan sy voornemens hê, maar die laaste woord daaroor kom van die Here af. ’’ Salomo se wysheid tref opnuut die kol as ’n mens na hierdie dokument kyk en dis inderdaad in alle nederigheid en met ‘n besef van diepe afhanklikheid dat die SBL van ons skool hierdie strategiese plan uitgewerk en op skrif geplaas het. Die vermoë om vooruit te kyk en onsself in die toekoms te plaas het die mens nog altyd gefassineer en dis daarom dat visie en leierskap van die allergrootste belang is. In ‘n tyd waarin ons as opvoeders kinders voorbrei vir ‘n toekoms wat ons self nie ken nie – en waarvan ons heel waarskynlik nie eens deel gaan wees nie! – is dit eweneens belangrik dat ons strategiese denke sal toepas om ‘n wêreld van uitnemend en ‘n toekoms vir ons kinders sal probeer skep. Welwetend dat die lewe self vol veranderlikes is en vol dinamika voortrol en vir niemand wag nie, is dit dan belangriker dat ons as volwassenes ‘n rol sal speel om ‘n sagte landing vir die kinders voor te berei.

INTRODUCTION

Hedendaagse skole funksioneer in ‘n dinamiese, snel veranderde omgewing wat beter beplanning, organisering en implementering van Skool Beheerliggame en –besture vereis. Alhoewel skole ‘n groot impak op ‘n kind se opvoeding het, kan onderwysers nie alleen verantwoordelik gehou word vir die opvoeding van kinders nie. ‘n Holistiese benadering van ouers, onderwysers, geestelike leiers en gemeenskappe is nodig om kinders te vorm ten einde te verseker dat hulle die skool verlaat en aktiewe gedissiplineerde burgers van Suid-Afrika word.

Realizing the need for an integrated approach to groom our learners to the best of our abilities, Northern Cape High developed a Medium Term Strategic Framework (2015-2018), the “Green Score Card”, to guide the school community into bringing about the change required.

The Medium Term Strategic Framework sets the goals for improvement and guide decision-making on how and when these goals will be achieved. The ultimate objective of the Framework is to improve learners’ achievement levels by creating a positive environment for learning and by increasing the degree to which parents are involved in their childrens’ learning at school and at home.

The Green Score Card will provide the road map for School Governing Body and School Management decision-making processes and will guide the school community in achieving the ultimate – “NORTHERN CAPE HIGH – SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE”.

1. SCHOOL PROFILE

Northern Cape High School is the leading school in the province. Enough said. Being a multi-cultural, metropolitan school with a large number of different cultures, Northern Cape High School represents the South African community in all its facets. Northern
Cape High School not only sets an example for all South African schools with regards to integration and transformation, but we are leaders in the ‘’science of change’’. The SGB and indeed the teachers of this school have succeeded since 1994 in establishing a multi-cultural school in its purist form – a school community who knows the value of working together and who are willing to learn from one another without one dominating the other.

Hoërskool Noord-Kaap is inderdaad ‘n opvoedkundige instansie waar elke leerder die geleentheid kry om hom- / haarself uit te leef binne ‘n duidelike raamwerk van dissipline en respek. Met die aanneem en aanhang van die skool se ses ononderhandelbare waardes van harde werk, respek, betroubaarheid, regverdigheid, uitnemendheid en verantwoordelikheid, word kinders vanuit alle oorde en uithoeke van Suid-Afrika bymekaargebring en gelei om bruikbare volwassenes in ‘n werkende Suid-Afrika te word.

We pride ourselves in the knowledge that we have almost perfected a model where different cultures can live their dreams and create their future without fear of that future. The tools are here for everyone to use and chisel away on a future to cherish.

Ons skool slaag daarin om ‘n gesonde balans te handhaaf tussen die absoluut hoë premie op akademie en prestasie, asook enorme groot verskeidenheid van buitemuurse bedrywighede waarin leerlinge in ‘n gedissiplineerde omgewing blootstelling kry op alle vlakke van kompetisie en mededinging.

2. STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK

Strategic planning is important for Northern Cape High as it provides clear direction and outlines the measurable goals of the school. The Medium Term Strategic Framework will encompass the vision, mission and strategic priorities that will guide the day-to-day decision-making at the school and will also assist in evaluating progress made when moving forward.
Northern Cape High developed and implemented a Balanced Score Card (2009-2015) in order to guide the school strategically in achieving its goals and objectives. As part of a Strategic Planning Process the implementation of the Balanced Score Card was evaluated to measure past and current performances. This allowed a basis for future planning and implementation to improve the school’s competitiveness nationally.

The Balanced Score Card provided a clear strategic framework for the school from 2009 till 2015. With the election of the new School Governing Body (SGB) in March 2015 the Balanced Score Card had to be gauged according to the current environment in which the school operates to determine its relevance. The current vision, mission and value system is still relevant. Slight amendments to the strategic priorities had to be made to enhance our competitiveness in an ever-changing school environment in South Africa.

2.1. VISION

The vision of Northern Cape High is to become a national trendsetter and the leader in the Northern Cape for excellent facilities and performance on academic, culture and sport areas.

2.2. MISSION

The mission of Northern Cape High is to educate learners to possess rigorous academic, sport, social and ethical skills in a diverse linguistic environment and become worthy characters so that they can lead full and productive lives.

2.3. VALUES

Northern Cape High has a set of clear ethical values that guide decision-making in the school community. These values are:
